Department: Highways & Engineering

Date of completion: May 2017

Budget: £40k

Requirement

Earl Street is a narrow street lying within an area susceptible to flooding. A new pump station, including a storage tank in the ground, needed to be installed along with associated electrical work, installation of headwalls and pumping main. Main challenges included working on a live site, leaving access to properties and the construction of deep drainage.

Solution

ODS' Highways & Engineering team worked closely with stakeholders and contractors to ensure that the project caused the minimum amount of disruption during construction. Throughout the project new skills were brought into play offering our workforce the opportunity to understand and work with new working methods and products. 100m of pumping main were installed during this project.

Results

ODS' Highways & Engineering team were able to install the new pump station and carry out ancillary works causing minimal disruption to road users and residents of Earl Street. The works were completed on time and to budget.
