Paving a residential area

Paving a residential area

Client: FirstPort Ltd

Project: Paving Didcot

Department: Highways

Date of completion: October 2020

Budget: £8K

Background

FirstPort is the UK’s premier property management group, spanning 184,000 homes across 3,900 developments in the residential, retirement and luxury markets. At one of their sites in Didcot, the block paved entrance road in to the property had sunken, moved and had a number of damaged areas of paving – becoming a health and safety issue.

Why ODS

ODS received the best marks on quoted price, as well as the best solution for relaying the area of paving.

Challenge

ODS found it challenging to take up and relay the entrance road into a residential home, while allowing access at all times for residents and emergency vehicles. Also some of the block paving was damaged and needing replacing. This can result in mismatch in colours of the paving.

Solution

The ODS solution was to take up all the paving and relay it to new line and reset. This was the most effective way to avoid the same issues happening again and to ensure the paving lined up accurately. We took up all the pavers and bedding, cleaned the paviours and disposed of the old bedding. Then relayed a new geotextile layer, new bed and relayed the blocks including the new charcoal boarder, which generated enough spare blocks to replace any further damaged on site.

Feedback

“The quality of RAMS etc. was very good and everything was done in a timely manner. The workmen were courteous and professional. The site was left very clean and the workmanship was of a high standard. We will happily use this company again.” Nina Clarkson, Development Manager
