Background
Westfield is a day, special school for primary aged pupils who experience prime presenting needs of communication and interaction difficulties, and/or social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The school had a need to increase capacity to cater for additional demand.
Why ODS
ODS competitively tendered the works against other regional main contractors coming first place on cost, quality and deliverables. Additionally, ODS demonstrated through this process a strong commitment to managing a live school environment and the creation of social value.
Challenge
ODS Carried out the project during the challenging Covid-19 pandemic landscape. Despite this we ensured that the project was delivered on time and budget by careful and proactive management of supply chains, excellent health & safety management and reliable accurate communication with all stakeholders.
Additionally ODS managed the works in a live, teaching environment, working with the school to ensure minimum disruption to its operation and that safeguarding requirements were complied with at all times.
Solution
The development comprised of the construction of front and rear extensions (including elements of steel frame), internal alterations, external hard and soft landscaping, Drainage works included a Swale system. The final works allowed Westfield to increase the number of school places available.
