At this year's Association of Public Service Excellence awards, Oxford Direct Services, won the "Best Performer, Transport Operations and Vehicle Maintenance Award", for the work we do for Oxford City Council.

The awards ceremony took place at the Grand Hotel, Blackpool on 6 December. The charity awards dinner has raised over £40,000 for Parkinsons UK in recent years.

Cllr Nigel Chapman, Board Member  for Customer Focused Services, said: "Oxford Direct Services has gone from strength to strength since it was set up last April. This latest award is testament to the successful partnership between them and the City Council, which is focused on how we continue to improve public services for the people of Oxford.

"I want to thank and congratulate the staff for their continued dedication, which has resulted in this award coming back to Oxford."

The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) is dedicated to promoting excellence in frontline services to local communities. As part of this, the organisation runs annual national awards that recognise outstanding performance across local government services.

APSE Chief Executive Paul O'Brien said, "APSE allows local government to recognise those top performing councils alongside those who are striving to continuously improve their frontline services. Right across local government our member councils are driving forwards on service improvements and placing quality at the heart of what they do."

Oxford City Council also received finalist certificates for six other disciplines.

The Transport Operations and Vehicle Maintenance section is responsible for Council’s 320-strong fleet of vehicles, ensuring that they are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. As well as this they provide transport related training to staff and provide vehicle maintenance services to external customers and members of the public.
