Dunstan Road Patching
Client: Oxfordshire County Council / Oxford City Council
Budget: £40,000
Department: Highways and Engineering (Infrastructure Solutions)
Completed: April 2024
Summary
The ODS Highways & Engineering Team manage the Section 42 agreement in partnership with Oxford City Council for Oxfordshire County Council.
Dunstan Road was identified via our Inspection regime and engineering assessment along with complaints from local residents. The scope of work was drafted by the technical team and the budget cost submitted to OCC for approval. The carriageway is heavily used and is a major cut through around the Northway estate. The carriageway had deteriorated and potholes and major rutting had formed through the running line of the carriageway.
Requirements
To identify damaged sections of the carriageway and remove the existing surface.
To apply a one-layer high-quality asphalt mix designed to withstand heavy traffic and prevent future determined deterioration.
To implement effective traffic management measures to minimise disruption during construction.
Challenge
Creating a diversion route so access to the Headington cemetery, to the rear of the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Northway estate with minimum disruption.
Solutions
We designed a diversion route for the local residents in consultation with our major stakeholder.
We milled off the surface to a maximum depth of 100mm and reconstructed the pavement layer with bitumen materials. We then relined the carriageway.
Results
The resurfacing project was successfully completed, significantly improving the quality and durability of the carriageway.
Feedback
ODS delivered the scheme to a high standard with minimum disruption.
