ODS’ First Domestic Solar PV and Battery Installation
Client: Oxfordshire resident
Completed: June 2026
Customer testimonial: “I would definitely recommend Oxford Direct Services Trading Limited to anybody.”
Summary:
ODS successfully delivered its first domestic solar PV installation and battery storage system for a Bicester resident committed to reducing their carbon footprint and rising energy bills. The installation included eight solar PV panels and a 3.8kWh battery storage system, designed to support their fully electric home and car.
The customer wanted a sustainable solution that would lower costs, increase energy independence and support future retirement plans. ODS delivered a seamless, well‑managed installation with clear communication and full support throughout, leaving the customer “100% confident” in the system and service.
Requirements:
The customer needed a renewable energy system that could meaningfully reduce their high electricity costs, which had become their largest household expense after the mortgage. With a fully electric home and car, they needed a solution that could meet their current energy demands while providing long‑term financial stability and supporting their future retirement plans.
They also wanted to invest in clean energy for the benefit of their family and grandchildren, helping create a more sustainable future for generations to come. Clear guidance on tariffs, export payments and day‑to‑day system operation was essential to ensure they felt confident managing and maximising their new setup.
Challenges:
Heavy rain and hail created unsafe roof conditions, forcing the team to pause work and adjust the schedule. By building contingency time into the work, the team worked safely around the weather and still deliver the installation on time.
The customer already had an air source heat pump and a fully electric setup, so the new solar PV and battery system needed to integrate seamlessly with the existing technology. This required detailed planning to ensure maximum efficiency and meaningful savings.
Solutions:
ODS installed eight solar PV panels alongside a 3.8kWh battery storage system designed to support the customer’s electric lifestyle and maximise the use of self-generated energy.
Following a desktop assessment to identify the most suitable roof pitch, ODS carried out a full site survey to confirm installation requirements, cable routes and other site considerations. The week‑long installation was delivered efficiently by the Property Services team, who worked efficiently throughout, kept the home clean and tidy and adapted safely to periods of heavy rain and hail by switching to ground level tasks until conditions improved. This ensured progress could continue and the project remained on schedule.
Outcome:
The customer now benefits from a renewable energy system that supports their electric home and car, helping to make energy costs lower and more predictable while providing greater financial security for future retirement.
The solar panels generate clean energy during the day, with surplus energy stored in the battery for later use. Unused electricity can also be exported to the grid through the Smart Export Guarantee providing an additional financial return.
With the home’s electricity demand increased by the heat pump, the solar PV and battery system helps meet more of this demand using the customer’s own renewable energy, reducing reliance on the grid and helping to lower energy costs and carbon emissions.
Delivered on time and to budget despite challenging weather, the project also strengthened local employment by using ODS’ in‑house renewables team. The installation has already generated interest within the community, demonstrating the benefits of renewable technologies and supporting Oxfordshire’s wider carbon reduction goals.
