Sports changing room and community space
Client: Oxford City Council
Project: Creation of a sports changing room and community space
Department: Major Projects
Date of completion: October 2019
Budget: £100k
Client
Oxford City Council is the local District Council serving the City of Oxford.
Requirement
The previous sports pavilion at Five Mile Drive in Oxford had been demolished due to poor condition and the client had to hire in a welfare unit to act as a polling station for elections. Usage of the site is reliant on suitable facilities for a polling station and toilet/welfare facilities for the local football club who use the site.
The full Design & Build contract was for the provision of a modular changing facility including kitchen and toilet facilities for Summertown Stars Football Club.
Solution
The project initially had no budget for a permanent replacement and we worked with the client to identify possible cost effective solutions which resulted in a modular pavilion unit at a significantly lower cost than the traditional brick build equivalent.
The works included:
Design
Foundations
Modular unit
Services connections
Associated landscaping and pathing.
Results
The new facilities were provided for the use of both the football club and Oxford City Council as a polling station. A modular off site building solution was proposed for the build to minimise the impact on local residents and the site itself, keeping build times to a minimum.
The result was a low impact modern changing facility and community space in the existing park.
