ODS are your perfect partner for traffic management solutions
Perhaps you need to close roads due to a major event, a new housing development, or as a recent project showed, to secure the safety of local residents, pedestrians and public transport users during the demolition of a building. ODS can help with your project requirements.
From start to finish
In October 2021 ODS were approached to design and execute a vital traffic management solution for their client - Brown and Mason Group Ltd, to help them demolish the iconic 198m Fawley Power Station Chimney in Hampshire.
Brown and Mason Group Ltd have established themselves as one of the largest industrial decommissioning, dismantling, demolition and asbestos removal companies in the world. Having previously commissioned ODS for a similar demolition project in Didcot, Oxfordshire, for Brown and Mason, ODS were the go to organisation to handle all the traffic management requirements at Fawley Power Station.
ODS managed the process from start to finish, from submitting permits and a Temporary Traffic Road Order (TTRO) along with designing the diversion route and signage. This was critical to the requirements of company if the project was to go ahead on time.
Brown & Mason wanted a fast, efficient and safe solution that ensured minimal disruption to the local community, pedestrians, traffic and the environment. ODS also managed and supplied a convoy service as requested, for residents and 200 VIPs to enter the closure point to gain access to a safe viewing zone.
Managing key stakeholders
Due to ODS’ key relationship with Oxfordshire County Council, they are highly knowledgeable and experienced with the planning and associated administrative requirements needed for road closures. As such they liaised Hampshire County Council to submit the TTRO, to agree the diversion routes, closure points and timing of the event, allowing Brown and Mason to focus on the blowdown of the chimney.
Delivering results
Traffic management preparation began on a Saturday and at 4am Sunday the road closure was employed. The demolition occurred at 7am and road was cleared and back open by 7:45am.
“Brown and Mason Group Ltd partnered with ODS again after our successful venture to demolish a chimney on another very well-known power station. The operation to control the local highways on that project was managed in an exemplary manner and we wanted a similar approach at Fawley Power Station...The execution of the event on the day in extremely poor weather was carried out with precision to the second by ODS and all went very smoothly and to plan as expected. I would highly recommend ODS as a professional and competent company to plan and carry put such events and it was a pleasure working with them. “
