ODS Wins Tender to Refurbish Derelict Penhill Bowls Club into a Thriving Community Hub
ODS is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract by Central Swindon North Parish Council to refurbish the former Penhill Bowls Club, transforming it into a modern, multi-functional community building. This exciting project has begun in September, with an anticipated completion time of early 2025.
The Penhill Bowls Club site, which has remained vacant and in a state of disrepair since the COVID-19 pandemic, has unfortunately been the target of several arson attempts and other forms of vandalism. The refurbishment will revitalise this derelict location, breathing new life into the community space.
ODS, recognised for our expertise in construction and community-focused projects, will lead the redevelopment effort. The scope of work includes significant structural repairs, a complete roof replacement, and the installation of new water, drainage, and electrical systems. Additionally, the interior of the building will be fully restored to ensure it meets modern standards for safety and usability.
Once completed, the new community building will serve as a hub for local residents, offering spaces for meetings, recreational activities, and social gatherings, thereby addressing a vital need within the Penhill area.
Mitchell Carter, Head of Construction at ODS, said: "Winning this tender is a testament to our commitment to delivering high-quality construction projects that serve the needs of local communities. We are excited to transform the Penhill Bowls Club into a space that will foster community spirit and provide a venue for a wide range of activities and events."
Central Swindon North Parish quote from Cllr James Yeowell, Chair of Community Development Committee: “I’m absolutely delighted that the derelict Penhill Bowls Club that has lain dormant for a few years now, is finally getting its much deserved overhaul into a multipurpose community building, that the people of Penhill can use an important local activities and social hub. Along with the forthcoming Skate Park installation, this development will be a major asset for Penhill residents for many years to come.”
