Surface Dressing maintenance works in Oxford
Surface dressing is a simple and highly cost-effective method of repairing the road surface, which can prevent much higher and more expensive way to repair carriageways at a later date.
Surface dressing works are undertaken in two phases:
Phase 1
Hot bitumen ‘binder’ is sprayed onto the road, and chippings are then applied and rolled in. The road is then swept several times to remove excessive chippings. The final stage of compacting the chippings into the surface is completed by vehicles movement using the road.
Phase 2
The second stage of the process will take place once the chippings have set in and been swept clean, a bitumen sealer will be applied, this is call lock chip. This seals the chipping in.
